Dancing at the Ball

Twelve princesses, all daughters of King Gregor and Queen Maude, disappear each night and return by dawn, weary and spent. Their dancing shoes are worn through and through. No one can guess where they go each night, and the princesses never divulge their secret. Galen, a soldier turned under-gardener, feels sure he can solve the mystery and help the princesses. Along the way, he's received clandestine help from an old crone and a wise gardener. With permission from King Gregor, Galen finds a way to follow the princesses, when no other has been able to before. He pieces together the clues...now he must find a way to break the curse that binds the princesses to endless dancing, marriage to dark-underworld princes, and a life apart from their beloved father. This re-telling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses by Jessica Day George is enchanting and flows seemlessly through each chapter, with just the right amount of hints to unravel the mystery to keep the reader engrossed in the tale through the end of the story. A magical love-story that everyday princesses will find captivating and exhilarating. A treasure for those that enjoy re-tellings of fairy tales.
